"The Last Lie" by Grace Kenyon
The last lie we might believe
Is that dark clings tighter
Then mist in the morning
That he is our only friend
The last goodbye before the candles
In the window are blown black
And the cold earth rises to meet us

But then we'll see it was not the dark
We tried to escape - that light was the given
The starting point, the uncut fabric, the seed
Like being located on search predicates
Being bathed in light
And autumn leaves glow
As I sit in shadow

Shadow, which is, after all, a side effect
Which lasts only the length of an orbit
So that when spinning surrenders
To stillness - the last lie
Is wiped away
By the same sleeve
That dries the last tear
On our cheek.
